Hands-on LEGO® : Exploring How Our World Works with LEGOS
Recommended for 3rd - 6th grade students

Does your child love LEGO®  blocks? Want to see your child use them to enrich their science and math learning and have TONS of FUN?! This class will provide instruction and time to help students discover their engineering skills and talent. Working in small groups the students will create something new each week and present to the class.  Students will also play LEGO® games, learn helpful LEGO® building techniques, participate in challenges... and MORE! This is purely a “hands on” class – no pencil or paper required! 

We will be using the classic LEGO® bricks, LEGO® Creator, LEGO® Education WeDo 2.0 and other available Lego resources as well as additional teacher created materials. These sets and prepared lessons are designed to introduce students to core concepts essentials to science, technology, and engineering using simple machines, motorized mechanisms, and sensors.

ALL IN-CLASS MATERIALS WILL BE INCLUDED IN YOUR LAB FEE.

Tuition:
$325* per year. Must be paid in 1, or 2 postdated checks to Betty Albert for July 1st and October 1st.
Non-Refundable after July 1. 

Supply/Lab fee: 
$75 non-refundable

LEGO® Robotics 
Recommended for 5th – 8th grade students

As a continuation of the Hands-on class offered at Community, this course expands on the basic science and engineering concepts with more intricate hands-on projects. Each session encourages creativity and imagination as kids brainstorm, build and experiment with multi-step structures and animating LEGO® robots. It’s a wonderful way to develop communication, creativity, collaboration, and critical problem-solving skills in a fun an engaging atmosphere. The students will engage in friendly competitions, advance verbal and written communication skills, sharpen scientific inquiry, and develop design and data analysis all while having a wonderfully FUN time. 

We will be using the classic LEGO® bricks, LEGO® Technix, LEGO® Education Mindstorms EV3 and other available Lego resources and teacher created materials. Students will gain a better understanding of how design and technology work in real-world applications.

Tuition payment arrangements must be made with individual tutors.
A nonrefundable Early Registration fee of $60 per student will be paid directly to Community (max. $180 per family) via online registration.
Registration is $70 per person after May 31st (max. $210 per family).

NOTE: Registration is not complete until registration fees and tutor supply/material fees* are paid at our Open House. Registrations after Open House are to be completed with all fees paid to tutors within two weeks of online registration in order to avoid restarting the registration process.

*All fees are nonrefundable after July 1st.


Community Tutors are contracted to serve as enrichment tutors alongside a comprehensive home education program.
Grade reporting is the responsibility of the student's parent or guardian.



Note: Community is not an umbrella school and recommends the students of Community be registered with a home education umbrella school.
