Meet Olivia!

Meet our new art tutor, Olivia Avery!

"Hello, I'm Olivia! I am from a big homeschooling family of twelve. I recently graduated with a degree in Studio Art from Union University. As a teacher in a homeschool program as well as special needs day camps, I am ready to share the gift of art with young people who enjoy it as much as I do! I bring my unique experience as a tutor, a student, and a homeschooler! Popular homeschool art tutor, Gwen English, is my long-time mentor and tutor. Her guidance helped me from my early high school career to now as I assist in her program at St. George's Independent School as a visiting artist. From elementary through high school art, I aim to create a warm and welcoming environment for students as well as teach the foundations of art to guide them toward future artistic endeavors. When I’m not teaching, I work for a local pottery studio and really love snacks. I am privileged to be a part of Community."

Here's what Olivia's mentor and long-time tutor has to say about what she brings to Community:

"Look out Memphis! You could not ask for a better art teacher and mentor for your young creative! Olivia Avery offers clear directives and demonstrations for her student projects while creating a supportive, inviting art studio for her students to work in. Her blend of structure and flow in her projects and classroom allows for academic growth in art combined with individual creative expression. If you have a student who is new to art or has some experience, Olivia is classically trained and can help them grow in their work as well as help them prepare competitive portfolios for college entrance and scholarships. It is a delight to see her returning to Memphis to share her gifts with the homeschool community where she got her start. Olivia served as a visiting artist in some of my classes this semester and the students LOVED working with her. Welcome to the community Olivia! Your future students are in for a real treat!"
